Brief Description
On 2 October 2009, The Ministry of Women and Child Development launched a National Campaign for the prevention of Violence Against Women throughout the country involving the non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the State Social Welfare Boards, the elected women in Panchyats, the Anganwadi workers, members of Self Help Groups (SHGs), Housewives. A human chain was formed in Delhi involving thousands of Anganwadi workers and NGOs to give the visibility to the Campaign. A pledge was administered on that day to speak out and stand against Violence Against Women. All were enrolled as Ahimsa Messengers (messengers of non-violence).
